About
Rug-by [ˈrəɡbē]
A team game played with an oval ball that may be kicked, carried, and passed from hand to hand. Points are scored by grounding the ball behind the opponents’ goal line (thereby scoring a try) or by kicking it between the two posts and over the crossbar of the opponents’ goal.
Rugby is a global game for all ages, genders, sizes and backgrounds with many varying formats for everyone to enjoy, from Non-Contact, 7s, 10s, 12s, to traditional Fifteen-a-side. Rugby delivers significant social and health benefits as well as being a part of the extended rugby family.
The game’s values from World Rugby define it as a sport of integrity, passion, solidarity, discipline and respect, up-held and entrenched by the laws of the game.
Many people are familiar with rugby as a fringe sport, but you may be surprised to learn that it is actually the second most popular sport in the world behind soccer. In fact, in Europe, Australia and South Africa, the teams and players are elevated to a star status that exceeds that of NFL players in the United States! Many teams fill 80,000 seat stadiums for international match play.
